Origins
Members of the Durango Wheel Club have been cycling Durango since 1895. We started as a cycling advocacy group and evolved into the social and racing club that helped make Durango a world-class cycling town.
Cycling in Durango since 1895
Road. Mountain. Community. The heart of cycling in the San Juan Mountains.
Inclusive. Community-first. Everyone welcome.
The Durango Wheel Club is one of America’s most storied cycling clubs—uniting riders, advocating for trails, and hosting the events that put Durango on the map. We’re committed to building community and staying super inclusive: all disciplines, all levels, all people. With the 2030 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships coming to Durango, we’re reviving the club for the next chapter.

Tom Mayer beat the train to Silverton. The race was born—and so was a fifty-year tradition that put Durango on the map.
The modern DWC formed in 1986, uniting local riders and organizing races that drew national attention. That grassroots spirit is what we’re bringing back.
Durango hosted the first UCI Mountain Bike World Championships at Purgatory. Ned Overend won in front of a home crowd.
Group rides, clinics, club races, and advocacy. We’re here for road, mountain, gravel, and everyone who loves two wheels in the San Juans. Inclusive and community-first.
Worlds return to Durango. We’re reviving the club to help lead the community into that chapter.
Durango is once again hosting the world. The UCI Mountain Bike World Championships are coming back to Durango in 2030—and the Durango Wheel Club will be at the center of the community that welcomes the world.
From the first-ever unified UCI MTB Worlds here in 1990 to Olympic talent like Christopher Blevins, Riley Amos, Savilia Blunk, Howard Grotts, and Sepp Kuss, Durango has always been a beacon for the sport. We’re ready for 2030.
We don’t have any sanctioned DWC rides yet—but you can still get out with the community. This summer we’ll launch a Summer Sunday Coffee Shop Ride (mountain and road). Every week there’s Tuesday Night Worlds, the legendary local hammer fest that’s been going for decades.
