La Plata County Community Ideas Forum; Feb. 27th!

The Board of County Commissioners would like to personally invite you to participate in a Community Ideas Forum on Saturday, February 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Durango Recreation Center. The Forum will bring together community members from around the county to discuss and identify the best strategies for us to move forward together to achieve our common vision. The topic areas for discussion during the Ideas Forum include: Economic Vitality, Sustainable Agriculture & Development, Housing (affordable & market rate), Healthy Communities and Social Services, Transportation & Connectivity, and Natural Resources.

Our excitement is continuing to mount with the ever increasing number of positive RSVP’s we are receiving. We will be serving light refreshments for breakfast as well as serving a delicious lunch. Additionally, we will have daycare available for those of you with wee little ones. Seats are filling quickly and we hope you can take a break from shoveling and confirm your attendance by emailing planning@co.laplata.co.us or calling 970.382.6263.

A New Link to the Ewing Mesa Map!

Summary of Ewing Mesa Meeting with County Administration

Recently I was asked to meet with the La Plata County administrative staff to discuss the proposed road through Ewing Mesa. The meeting focused on the parcel of land that is currently known as the Oakridge Development. This parcel consists of approximately 1800 privately owned acres located to the southeast of Durango on which are a considerable number of biking, hiking and equestrian trails. [Read more →]

Tour De Farms: 8/30/2009

On Sunday, August 30th will be the 3rd Annual Tour de Farms hosted by Healthy Lifestyle LaPlata. There will be 2 rides this year: an in-town 5-mile tour that will visit school, community and backyard gardens and an Ignacio tour that will visit La Boca Center for Sustainability and Fox Fire Farms. The Ignacio ride is 25 miles.

Both rides will meet back at the Smiley Building for an all local foods BBQ with Sunnyside burgers, Carvers beer & root beer, and music by Michael Rendon’s gypsy band, “Carute Roma!”
