In Friday’s Durango Herald article I was quoted as saying that group rides going out during rush hour were bandit rides. In hindsight, I feel that I have used an inappropriate term to describe what I meant. My intention was to say that large group rides going out at rush hour were not being held or organized by the Durango Wheel Club. I certainly did not mean to imply that people can’t ride wherever and whenever they want, or that non-DWC group rides are bad or wrong. I know that for many, rush hour is the only time of day that is possible to ride: I understand and respect that fact. I believe that we should be able to cycle when and where we want as individuals or in groups. I strongly believe that cyclist have the right to share the roads with others and I hope that all cyclists take it upon themselves to do so in a safe and legal manner.
Sincerely,
Spencer

Spencer-
Your comment is understood, but this is what is known as “preaching to the choir.”
Those who hate cyclists being on the roads will likely continue to do so and will connect ALL cyclists with the Wheel Club, if only for the non-reason that any “group”of cyclists MUST be part of an organization, and there is only one of those around (IHBC not included).
