Final Hermosa Classic Update 7/21/08:
On Friday 6 motos went up and cleared the trees off of Corral Draw and a few new ones on Hermosa. They had quite an adventure indeed thanks to Curt Larsen, Greg Herbold and friends for putting in 7 hours up there.
As of Sunday the whole course is marked with orange flagging (there is some pink flagging out there) and the whole course is in prime condition. Some flagging on the Colorado Trail had to be replaced because people had torn it down so be prepared by printing out the Notes on the mapmyride.com map (see link below), they give a detailed account of the course. There will be course marshals at every turn on race day for the extended loop for the short course there will be a few course marshals but there are no turns to take off of the trail stay on the Hermosa Creek Trail!
The top section of Hermosa is wet from the almost daily afternoon rains. It looks like the monsoon is kicking in for this week, but is forecasted to weaken by the weekend you never know, so be prepared for the race and the camping. It is very unlikely that the race will be cancelled it will have to rain hard Friday night and be raining in the morning. If the storms do start to build early and there is a risk of lightning racers on the extended loop may have to retreat and times will be given for the short course.
For the BBQ/Campout Saturday night be sure to bring extra food the BBQ will probably be over by 5pm and cyclists will probably need to eat again and also for breakfast Sunday morning. You should also bring some insect repellant, a chair for the movies and rain gear.
Remember we can haul your camping gear up to the finish. We can also shuttle people back down to the start on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. If you want to ride back down the trail Sunday we can drop your camping gear at the Cyclery that afternoon. If you are camping at the North end on Friday night (there will be quite a few) we can haul you and your bike to the start line Saturday morning.
A couple more sponsors have come on board:
J&B Importers Prizes
RGPs Volunteer Goodies
Ska Brewing Beverages for the BBQ
Fun Center – Radios w/repeater System for EMTs and Course Marshals
Thanks to all of our other sponsors for their contributions see flyer.
For more info go to http://cycling.fortlewis.edu
See you at registration.
