The Durango Wheel Club is involved with promoting safe cycling in and around Durango.
We are a founding member and supporter of The Safe Roads Coalition. Check out what they do at Safe Roads Coalition
The Durango Wheel Club is a supporter of the Smylie Bike Project; an all-volunteer group effort to recycle and distribute discarded bicycles to people who need them. Melvin T. Smylie provided this service to the Durango community beginning in the 1970’s and continued until his recent passing at the age of 94. The volunteers with SBP have continued Mr. Smylie’s work by recycling donated bikes and giving them away for free to people who need transportation. DWC donations have been used to buy new tires, tubes and parts that SBP uses to make the bikes safe and ready for the road. For more information on the Smylie Bike Project, to make a contribution or donation, call Bob, Jon or Russell at 759-0747.
We are also a supporter of the City of Durango Bike To Work Day held every June on Main Avenue.
